Straight Into Your Web Browser is the Metaverse: Here’s How to

With the Metaverse Browser, Layer-1 blockchain and metaverse protocol Somnia hopes to improve accessibility and user-friendliness for Web3 research and custom content production.

The metaverse has become more and more well-known in the last few years, and businesses like The Sandbox are now well-known names outside of the Web3 domain.

Onboarding new users, however, continues to be a hurdle for developers in the field who wish to keep making digital reality, well, a reality, even after the early euphoria subsided.

The Layer1 blockchain and metaverse protocol Somnia stated that it is integrating the metaverse directly into users’ web browsers in an effort to make it more approachable and user-friendly.

The Metaverse Browser, designed with an easy-to-use interface to facilitate Web3 exploration and the creation of original content, was made available by the protocol on May 15.

Somnia’s founder, Paul Thomas, stated that the company wants to pave the way for a metaverse that is more “inclusive and accessible.”

“This platform aims to empower people to explore and create without boundaries, in addition to simplifying technology.”

Thomas stated

“We hope that anyone will be able to use it, be a part of the metaverse, and use Web3 because [users] don’t even need to have a Web3 wallet installed to interact with the browser—all of that is abstracted for the user.”
He emphasized that within the Somnia ecosystem, users may also design and launch DApps using the browser.

This comprises tools for creating items, which make use of generation tools based on artificial intelligence (AI) to make it simple for anyone to produce objects even if they have no prior experience with 3D art.

Thomas stated that they plan to launch a first-party marketplace in the future so that people can trade their avatars and metaverse items, establishing what is known as the “metaverse object economy.”

“A software development kit will be available to developers, facilitating the creation of applications that allow users to engage with the metaverse,” the developer stated. “These apps could be anything, such as a metaverse marketplace or a profile viewer.”

In fact, Somnia and Web3 media startup Yuga Labs collaborated to provide holders of particular Yuga Labs nonfungible token (NFT) collections with special incentives.

When participating in the Somnia Point Dream Hunt incentive program, which rewards users for engaging with metaverse experiences, these users will receive a bonus on any points they acquire.

According to X, he believes that these collaborations will “drive initial community engagement” and inspire some of the largest Web3 groups to give the metaverse in their browsers a try.

Known for creating the phrase “Yugaverse” and for being a pioneer in fusing digital and real worlds, Yuga Labs is the business behind popular NFT collections like Mutant Apes, Bored Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, and more.

Yuga Labs, which had appointed Greg Solano as CEO two months previously, declared on April 26 that a restructuring process had begun.

Despite the downturn, Statista projects the metaverse market to be worth $74.4 billion by the end of 2024; even with conservative projections, the market is positioned for upward expansion based on its overall trajectory.
